My yearly trips to Trinidad & Tobago for Carnival were more than vacations—they were journeys to my second home, where I immersed myself in the richness of my roots, staying with my grandmother. She was a herbal virtuoso, passing down ancient remedies from health tonics to beauty elixirs. As her eager apprentice, I plucked herbs from her garden, witnessing the magical process of infusing elixirs with nature's gifts. Grandma's touch transformed hair rituals into extraordinary experiences. Her herbal rinses and carefully crafted oils, applied during and after expertly styled cornrows, created enchanting memories. My hair thrived under her seasoned care, a testament to age-old remedies and traditions she lovingly passed on. Reflecting on this invaluable experience, I'm filled with gratitude. Honouring her wisdom, I'm delighted to launch Blumseed Hair Growth Oil—a tribute to my grandmother and a celebration of diverse hair textures. Hello, I'm Zakiyyah Alexander, a Hair-Scalp Specialist, Kitchen Alchemist, and the Founder of Blumseed. My journey is rooted in the rich beauty traditions of my Ancestral, African, and Caribbean heritage, dedicated to crafting products that nourish, rejuvenate, grow, and beautify your precious crown. Allow me to share my personal story of hair loss. Growing up, my hair thrived under my mother's meticulous care, inspired by natural beauty traditions passed down from my grandmother's healing remedies cultivated in her garden. However, as a teenager, influenced by societal trends, I succumbed to the allure of chemical perms. This decision led to scalp burns, damaged integrity, hair loss at the center of my head, breakage, and lackluster hair that refused to grow beyond shoulder length. After five years, I had an epiphany in front of the mirror - it was time to embrace and honor my unique hair through the liberating act of the Big Chop. Reflecting on my childhood influences, I remembered the healthy hair examples set by my mother and grandmother, who showcased the wonders of nature's gifts. This realization sparked the creation of my first herbal-infused hair oil, inspired by my grandmother's teachings. Unable to find a 100% natural product on the market, I infused the herbs witnessed in my grandmother's remedies and added more, resulting in a hair oil that became the key to my healthy hair journey. As friends, family, colleagues, and even strangers noticed and admired the health of my hair, inquiries about my secret led to the birth of my hair product business. Many joined the journey, embracing the Big Chop and incorporating my oil into their routines. In just four years, I achieved a full head of healthy hair down to waist length. Though my personal struggles with hair loss have ceased, I maintain a commitment to scalp and hair care. I cherish hot oil treatments, regular oil application for scalp health, and sealing my hair with this miraculous oil for strength and nourishment. These practices, inherited from my grandmother, are invaluable, and I'm grateful to pass them on to my loved ones and the world. Welcome back to hair love!
